Haliz Yosef’s street documentary series ‘Budapest generation’ consists of three large-scale black & white photographs. Yosef refers to the method used in this project as "one-shot", meaning she approached each of her photo subjects on the street without prior arrangement or even much conversation. Her goal was to create a meaningful connection with people – and in fact try to capture their essence – during encounters which only lasted a few moments. Her idea was to employ a minimalistic approach to crystallize something timeless and essential about the spirit of a complete stranger.
“I wanted to challenge my way of approaching other people, which at first felt quite awkward. It was an odd feeling to at once be so close, yet – standing behind my camera – so distant.”
