Wärtsilä Natural Power

June, 2012

Love&Money selected lighting designer Jukka Korpihete to create an art installation for Wärtsilä Corporation based on the theme of natural power. Korpihete’s ambitious solution was to install – then film and photo-document – a multi-projector video artwork within the main hall of a former power station – Suvilahti Kattilahalli – in the industrial harbour area in Helsinki, Finland. The result was a site-specific, looping multi-media experience that filled the entire hall of the old power plant with moving pictures and sound. The work consisted of a series of iconic images projected onto a central disc-shaped screen – and also the building’s interior pillars and walls. These images, including the sun, moon, earth, fire, wind and water, served as symbolic representations of diverse types of natural power.

‘Inspired by Natural Power’, is the theme for Wärtsilä’s global calendar for the year 2013.
