Low Life is an exploration of certain ideas, and how these entwine with a number of awkward topics. These are portraits of live-cam sex workers. From ordinary rooms around the world, they're freely visible to anyone – for hours at a time. Their job is to find people eager to ‘go private’ with them.

My screen name is ‘Low Life’ and I’ve documented thousands of online performers. One said to me "You don't think I'm real, do you?” My portraits are made by printing live screenshots of my subjects onto canvas, then over-painting them intensively.

Social and economic brutality is an agony, but not my main one. While live-cam performers are uniquely exposed, their vanities and frailties are so very familiar. I'm most interested in how we might all re-imagine ourselves and each other.
